Mountain documentaries are addictive. After 14 Pea Mountain documentaries are addictive. After 14 Peaks, my next documentary was The Porter: The Untold Story at Everest. This is another awesome documentary that highlights the life of a Himalaya Porter. American Nathaniel J. Menninger @nathanieljmenninger discovers the difficult physical and mental realities of being a porter on the trek to Everest Base Camp over an 11 day journey. Nathaniel explores the low payment, difficult lifestyle and treatment of these men who again, are often taken for granted while often being the main reason that adventurers survive these expeditions. The Porter is another documentary well worth the watch, and it will hopefully give more compassion for Porters and Sherpas alike who are helping us achieve our bucket list adventures. In the early days of FLY Travel Radio, I had the opportunity to interview Jarlath McHale of Ireland, who was the first non-Quechuan speaking Porter to experience the Inca Trail. We stumbled upon the most amazing Airbnb @dreamerscreativewriting , which turned out to be a 420-friendly accommodation (that means cannabis for some of you). Set in a magical, countryside location one hour south of Tobermory, Ontario this is a year-round haven for outdoor lovers, nature seekers, and those just wanting some peace. I recently won this book, thanks to @hikebiketrave I recently won this book, thanks to @hikebiketravel . Be Free was written by Canadian author and explorer Angela deJong, and is a collection of stories about her solo backpacking trips in Africa, where she hiked the tallest peaks of the continent. You have to love free time during the holidays. 14 You have to love free time during the holidays. 14 Peaks is a captivating documentary about @nimsdai , a Nepali mountaineer who climbed all 14 of the world’s 8000 meter peaks. Even better, he did it in six months, which is shocking to those in the professional mountaineering game. Nimsdai seems to have superhuman physical capabilities, in addition to his unbreakable spirit and mental fortitude, making this documentary compelling to watch. Also of interest is the attention he gives to the role of the Sherpa, stressing how much more respect and importance these men deserve as they risk their lives to ensure the safety and well being of those who are determined to climb.
